The committee is made up of producers and exporters of peas (snow peas and sugar snape) and vegetables. The sector has more than 30 years of experience in the production and export of agricultural commodities such as snow peas, sugar snapes, french beans, green beans, mini carrots, mini zucchini, among others. This has promoted the economic development and improvement of the quality of life of more than 70,000 families in 200 communities in rural areas that depend directly on these aagricultural commodities. 85 percent of the national production of french beans, peas, and mini vegetables takes place in the region of Chimaltenango, Sacatepéquez and Sololá. The success of the industry has promoted the development of new productive areas in the regions of Huehuetenango, Quiché, Alta Verapaz, Baja Verapaz and Jalapa, which complete the remaining 15 percent.
It is estimated that around 11,000 hectares of peas are currently cultivated, generating thousands of jobs and sustainable development for men and women in these regions.
